| If your computer has trouble reading or printing the PDFs available for download on this website, then there may be a few causes. It is possible that you could resolve the problem by doing one of the following. We hope it helps.
Download / Reading Problems
- Be patient. Your browser may display the message "Done" in the status bar (at the bottom of the browser window) almost immediately after you have clicked on a link to a PDF file, even though it hasn't yet had time to download the file. The browser may also simply show a blank page at this point giving the misleading impression that it has tried and failed to download the document. A good clue is the logo near the top right corner of the browser window. If the logo is changing then the browser is still downloading the document, regardless of the message in the status bar.
- Try again. Sometimes the file will display correctly after you refresh the page. Your computer may even need a restart. (Yes, even your Macintosh ;-)
- Browser security settings. If you are using Internet Explorer and your security settings are set to High, then you may get a blank page when trying to view PDFs. You will find these settings under Tools | Internet Options | Security.
- Download to your computer's hard drive. Sometimes there are problems viewing large PDFs over the internet. Rather than opening the file in your browser over the internet, download it first to your hard drive, then open it directly in the Acrobat Reader application. In order to do this right-click on the link and choose Save Target As from the menu that appears.
- Upgrade to a more recent version of Acrobat Reader. The PDFs on this web site require Version 5 or above. Acrobat Reader is free.
Printing Problems
- The document could not be printed. This error has been reported by some users and occurs only when printing specific pages in the magazine. One way to resolve this problem is to use the 'Print As Image' option in your printer settings. If that doesn't work for you, you could try selecting the text on that page in the PDF, then copy it to your word processing software and print it from there.
