| NBPOL has developed an Environmental Management System to help the company to minimise its effects on the environment. The company is using the international standard for Environmental Management; known as ISO 14001 (1996), as the vehicle to deliver this system and in May 2004 NBPOL achieved accreditation. The name ISO comes from the International Standards Organisation, who originally set technical standards for engineering and business. This Standard is universally employed and recognised as a measure of quality in establishing a systematic approach to environmental management. This recognition will allow our shareholders to have environmental confidence in the way we manage NBPOL and demonstrate environmental responsibility to the people who buy our oil.
ISO 14001 provides the company with a framework to follow in setting up and operating an environmental management system (EMS). In committing to ISO 14001 NBPOL has therefore set ideals and standards, which go beyond mere national legislation. This beyond compliance attitude underpins much of ISO 14001 thinking.
At NBPOL our standards are clear requirements and these are to make a commitment to:
- Compliance with all national environmental licence's and codes of practice
- Prevention of pollution
- Continuous improvement of environmental performance.
And our environmental policy reflects this.
We have called our overall approach "People, Planet, Profit" believing that this sums up the aims of the companied environmental policy in that the planned approach is the Safest, most efficient and environmentally responsible way to operate. |
