New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is Papua New Guinea's largest oil palm plantation and milling operator. In 2005 NBPOL acquired an 80% shareholding in Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Ltd (GPPOL) situated in Guadalcanal province in the Solomon Islands. NBPOL's core activity is the cultivation and processing of Oil Palm into Crude Palm Oil (CPO), Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) and Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE) for sales to both domestic and foreign markets. NBPOL major export markets include the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia.
Annual production for 2006 was 1,054,529 tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFB), yielding some 235,099 tonnes of CPO, an annual record. Currently NBPOL have nearly 40,000 hectares of estate managed oil palms and source fruit from a further 24,000 hectares of independent oil palm growers. We forecast that by the end of 2008, the company will manage and operate over an area in excess of 67,000 hectares, making us a substantial player in the global oil palm industry.
At NBPOL we pride ourselves on being an environmentally friendly company. We attained ISO14001 for Environmental Management and Monitoring in 2004 and have been a member of RSPO since 2003. Moreover, through the strict adherence to international environmental standards we produce high quality palm oils with low free fatty acid levels.
At NBPOL we are constantly planning for the future. Dami Oil Research Station is a world-class producer of oil palm seed and continues it research in breeding programs with the selection of better yielding elite palms. Through state of the art research programs with Cambridge University and Queensland University on mapping the oil palm genome and developing a double haploid oil palm NBPOL look poised to increase its strong hold on the international Palm Oil industry.
In Addition to Palm Oil, NBPOL also operate in the cattle breeding industry. Plus through the Dami Oil Palm Research Station; we have established modern culture laboratory and seed processing facilities with production and sales of approximately 20 million seeds.
